The Dayton Area
Known as the “birthplace of aviation,” Dayton has a history of big-time innovations. Dayton is the home of Wilbur and Orville Wright, and myriad other inventors of such items as the stepladder, cellophane tape, and space food.

Today, nearly one million people call Dayton home, as well as five Fortune 1,000 companies, several divisions of General Motors, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Dayton and the surrounding area boast a wealth of opportunities for residents, including affordable housing, big city amenities, and small town conveniences. The Dayton area’s rich blend of experiences and opportunities include:

Museums
The world’s largest and oldest military museum, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, is housed in Dayton, containing a hundred years of aviation history. Families enjoy the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, a science museum where play and learning come together. SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park is a partially reconstructed Native American village showcasing over 900 years of history and artifacts; and the Dayton Art Institute hosts landmark exhibits, annual festivals and a traditional art school.

Performing Arts
Dayton features local and touring performances in its new Benjamin and Marion Schuster Performing Arts Center, as well as in historical venues like the Victoria Theatre and Memorial Hall. Culture Works supports local artists such as the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Opera, the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, and the Human Race Theatre Company.

Parks and Recreation
Through Five Rivers MetroParks, the city manages 25 public facilities and over 12,700 acres for year-round recreation, education and conservation. The newest park, Riverscape, is a downtown attraction complete with an interactive fountain, nighttime laser light shows, free summer concerts and an ice skating rink for winter visitors. Miles of biking and running paths link downtown Dayton to several area suburbs and outlying attractions.

Sports
Dayton is home to two minor league sports teams – the Dragons (baseball) and the Bombers (hockey). Local fans also follow local collegiate athletics at Wright State University and the University of Dayton. Professional football, baseball, soccer, and hockey teams can be found in nearby Cincinnati and Columbus.

Shopping and dining outlets are abundant in Dayton. Visit The Greene, the Dayton Mall, the Mall at Fairfield Commons, Prime Outlets at Jeffersonville, the Shops of Oakwood or Town and Country Shopping Center.
